C.D Civils Ltd logo design

Objective

In 2016, I made a conscious effort to use social media as a creative platform to share my design work and projects to build my presence within the designer community. The response was really encouraging it helped me grow within the design community but also attracted attention from a range of businesses looking for professional design support. One of those enquiries came from a newly formed civil engineering firm that needed a new logo to establish its identity.

This was my first experience designing for a civil engineering client, so I began by researching how the sector presented itself visually. I analysed logos, colour schemes, and typography used by established companies to understand the balance between professionalism and technical precision that clients in this field value. From this research, I saw an opportunity to create something bold and contemporary something that would stand out while remaining true to the industry’s.

I explored concepts built around road markings, motorway lines, and geometric forms inspired by infrastructure layouts. The final design featured a stylised highway motif paired with a strong slab serif typeface. To bring energy and visibility, I used a bright fluorescent accent, echoing the high-visibility materials often seen on site.

The client responded positively to the concept straight away, requesting only minimal tweaks. The project was delivered smoothly and efficiently, and it became a strong early example of how I approach unfamiliar industries.
